Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series Goes Underground In Mexico

The 2010 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is this summer’s premier cliff diving showcase! Red Bull proves that you don’t need a traditional cliff to host a cliff diving competition – because past stops have led divers to jump from castles, cranes, and ships.

For the next stop, divers will jump into the Earth itself! Specifically, on June 6th, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series stops in Chichen Itza (which translates: At the mouth of the well of the Itza) in Mexico. The area is known for its sacred sunken wells, including the Cenote Ik Kil which will serve as the venue for the competition.

‘Liquid Mountaineering’ Hoax Is Viral Advertising

This faux-documentary of a new sport called “liquid mountaineering” fooled millions of viewers (and even a Washington D.C. nightly news team) into believing that the Hi-Tec waterproof running shoe can help you walk on water.

Hi-Tec denies making the video, but says they provided equipment for this “incredible new sport” (source).

So, unfortunately, the world of water-running is left to insects and the basilisk lizard.

What’s Going On Here? Finish Line Photography In Grand Prix Diving

This Sports Illustrated photo from the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale looks like a diver crossed with a wake-boarder, or a diver flying over the surface of the water. According to the description in the online album: “SI photographer Heinz Kluetmeier was on hand with his special FinishLynx camera for the action. A digital scanning technique made it appear as if the divers had already created a splash” (source).

For more information, I went to, and found that the FinishLynx

Fifth Annual “Tri for Joe” Multisport Charity Event

On May 29, 2010, the Cincinnati community will gather at at Coney Island for a Sprint Triathlon, Duathlon, and 5K to benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati (DSAGC). Tri for Joe is an event developed by the Gerstle Family in honor of their son Joe.

According to a letter from the Gerstle Family on,

“We wanted to develop a unique event that was based on Tom’s experience in Triathlon and would enable those that Joe has touched in his life to come out and compete, see Joe and reflect on what he has experienced. This is a family friendly event that will appeal to the seasoned multisport athlete as well as rookies who are looking for a new challenge.”

The money Tri for Joe raises goes to support the New Baby Celebration Program at the DSAGC, along with the 24 Hour Help Line and the Parent To Parent Network Program.

The pool course looks like a lot of fun, weaving around a large pool big enough to be considered an open water swim. The edge is a simulated beach, so be sure to do some ‘water running’ on your way in.
