Senior Olympic Synchronized Swimming Skit

Senior Olympic Synchronized Swimming Skit

Heidi sent me this YouTube video of a Senior Olympic Synchronized Swimming Skit. Funny stuff! The only description of the video is “Having fun with retirement…” I guess boredom is a powerful force. These guys show that “senior status” hasn’t dulled their sense of humor!

Rob Aquatics Announces Summer Open Water Tour

rob aquatics summer open water tour

Last night, I got an email with a big announcement from Rob Aquatics. This summer, Rob Dumouchel will be taking his blog and his enthusiasm for open water swimming on tour across this great nation. Can Masters swimmers go on tour? Rob says why not!

You can read more about Rob’s big announcement on his blog, where he talks about turning the vision into reality.

With the support of blueseventy as a corporate sponsor, Rob’s busy summer kicks off with the USMS 1 Mile Open Water Championships at Lake Norman in Charlotte, NC on May 29th, and will wrap up with a September 11th swim at Big Shoulders (5k) in Chicago, IL.

Inventory Scavenger Hunt: USMS Car HoodWare

I decided to take my camera phone on a little scavenger hunt to see what obscure in-stock items I could dig up in the warehouse. Today I found something called a USMS Car Hoodware.

I’ve never seen one of these up close before, but it looks like one of those oval car magnets except it’s made of hard plastic and comes with a flexible mounting system. It looks best on either the front grille or covering the trailer hitch on your car. These USMS logo car mounts were made specially for Kast-A-Way Swimwear by a company called HoodWare.

Item: USMS Car HoodWare
SKU#: USMS CAR
Retail: $19.95
Available Online: Yes

I’ll keep an eye out for more obscure in-stock items. This is kinda fun, I might turn it into a regular feature on the blog – there’s certainly no shortage of warehouse space in need of exploring.

USMS Article, Differences In Swim Cap Materials

Differences In Swim Cap Materials

The United States Masters Swimming website hosts an archive of articles covering a variety of topics, including swimming drills and stroke techniques, equipment information, and fitness articles. Because I currently find myself in the business of swimming equipment, I wrote an article for USMS titled Differences In Swim Cap Materials: Lycra, Latex, Silicone. The article serves as a general overview of the differences between the three major types of materials currently used for competitive swimming caps.

RE: How the Dubai Charter Affects Masters Swimming

dubai charter and us masters swimmingI added a RE: in the subject line, not because I’m treating this blog as my own personal e-mail, but because I wanted to reiterate what I read over at Rob Aquatics and add my own two cents.

With Masters Nationals fast approaching, USMS.org posted an urgent notice on their home page (PDF) giving their official position in consideration of FINA’s Dubai Charter.

Basically, the USMS interpretations of FINA rules is straight forward: USMS will allow suits that were approved after September 30, 2007 unless otherwise rejected. If the suit has been approved, it stays approved until you hear otherwise (which should be with the future publication of an ‘approved suit’ list). The ‘one suit’ rule is also being strictly interpreted. The use of more than one swimsuit at a time during sanctioned competition is prohibited.

Then in the same document, it appears that Kathy Casey, U.S. Masters Swimming Rules Committee Chair, contradicts the interpretation of the ‘one suit’ rule. She states that:

“This restriction applies to all types, makes, and models of swim suits, but it is not intended to apply to athletic supporters or modesty type wear (a single pair of
