Synchrogators Arrive in Gainesville, Weekend Update

Good Morning Eric

2 parts to this -11/12 competition update, and 13-15 report

11/12 Age Group

Competition started on Saturday June 27 for the 11/12 age group. Many of these girls have never been to a meet of this size (1000+ athletes), so they are a little intimidated by the crowds and the intensity of the competition. They all swam very well today and their coach, Ginny Jasontek, was very pleased with their performances. Our 11/12 soloist, Olivia Bley finished in 21st place. We had two duets; Josie Nunner and Elizabeth Walsh in 18th place and Olivia Bley and Danielle Moser in 24th place. The eight person team finished in 13th place. The trio competition will be run on Sunday with the finals later in the day.

13-15 Chaperones Report

After a crowded but uneventful flight and drive from Jacksonville to Gainesville. The 13-15 teams (both A and B) practiced for about 2 hours at the hotel pool then enjoyed a nice team dinner at TGIFridays. We discussed the timeline for Sunday (where everyone needs to be and when) and the girls were in bed by 10pm. That’s when the fun began…about 3:45am the hotel was aroused by the fire alarm!!! We gathered the girls and proceeded to the exits. Not an easy feet when the girls rooms are somewhat scattered across the 4th floor of the hotel. We were then informed that it was a false alarm and returned to our rooms.

Trios swim today, wish us luck.

Here’s to no more fire alarms!!!

Synchrogators: Getting Ready For Nationals With “TP Night”

Here’s Larry’s first report on the Cincinnati YMCA Synchrogators’ trip to Age Group Nationals:

Last night was “TP” night for the Cincinnati Synchrogators 18/19 team. This annual team building exercise involves visiting the homes of the synchronized swimmers who are going to the E-Synchro Age Group Nationals for the first time and toilet papering (with parents permission of course). The girls do a very thorough and artistic job! After finishing up (about 3:00 am) they all went to camp out on Head Coach Ginny Jasontek’s lawn.

The girls are ready and excited to be leaving for Nationals. Some of the girls have been practicing 6 or 7 days a week to prepare for this, but their efforts will be rewarded. The 11/12 team competition starts on Saturday June 27, the 13/15′s start on Sunday and the 16 and overs start on Wednesday.

The competition is divided into four age groups: 11/12, 13-15, 16/17, and 18/19. Routines qualify for this event in regional competitions and the top three routines in each event move onto the National Age Groups. About 40 teams nationally, in each age group, make it to this competition. There are five events in each age group: solo, duet, trio, team and figures

Ground Zero Reporting from ESynchro Age Group Championships

cincinnati synchro online journal

The Cincinnati YMCA Synchrogators, along with over 1000 other athletes, have been preparing for the ESynchro Age Group Championships that will take place in Gainesville, Florida from June 27th – July 4th. This national age-group competition will invade the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida for the largest synchronized swimming event in the world – and Kast-A-Way Blog will be receiving updates direct from ground zero at the Synchrogators camp.

The Cincinnati Synchrogators have a lot on the line this year, as they are the defending 2008 18/19 US National Age Group Champions. They got a taste of silver in 2006 and 2007, and have no plans of giving up their national title.

At the helm is head coach Ginny Jasontek, a former synchronized swimming champion from New Jersey who started the Synchrogator team 40 years ago. Ginny serves as Honorary Secretary of the Technical Synchronized Swimming Committee of FINA, and in 1991 she was elected to the Synchronized Swimming Hall of Fame.

Parent Board President, Larry Porter, will be our reporter on the scene. Larry has agreed to provide updates and share the Synchrogator experience at the meet via regular journal posts on Kast-A-Way Blog.
